A typical comprehensive solution is a combination of growing thin films by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) or physical vapor deposition (PVD) characterized by using ultra-high vacuum (UHV) scanning probe microscopy (SPM) (at variable or dedicated low temperatures), electron spectroscopy techniques (imaging electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA), scanning auger microscopy) and high resolution scanning electron microscopy (SEM) imaging at low beam energies.

Argus is a next generation hemispherical analyzer with multichannel detection technology developed for uncompromised x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA). It is a multi-purpose easy-to-use electron spectrometer with excellent transmission and outstanding sensitivity provided by state-of-the-art multi-channel detection. Dedicated detection modes such as Snapshot XPS and chemical state imaging guarantee that relevant information from the sample surface is provided to the scientist fast and easily.

The new Fermi SPM is a compact solution for ultra-high vacuum (UHV) scanning probe microscopy (SPM) in a temperature range from 15 K to 400 K.

One year after Binnig and Rohrer won the Nobel Prize in 1986, Scienta Omicron delivered the first commercial ultra-high vacuum (UHV) scanning probe microscope (SPM), the legendary UHV STM1. The UHV STM1 is still the benchmark for stability and high-performance STM measurements.

With the UHV STM1 Scienta Omicron introduced the famous eddy current vibration isolation system which defined a milestone in UHV SPM technology. This proven design is typical for all Scienta Omicron SPM’s and allows high resolution scanning tunneling microscopy operation even in non-ideal conditions for more than 25 years.
